365 Days of Tech, Growth, and Grace: My Year in Review

365 Days of Tech, Growth, and Grace: My Year in Review

Wow, 365 Days Already? A Year of Achievements, Disappointments, and Grace

I’m Saviour, a full-stack developer at Acceleratez and DevRel at ginoid. This year has been nothing short of a rollercoaster filled with tech, code, achievements, setbacks, and, most importantly, grace.

Here’s a breakdown of my year: the goals I crushed, the ones I missed, and those I wish I had tackled better.

A Year of Tech and Growth

The year began quietly. From January to May, I focused on improving my portfolio, honing my skills, and laying the groundwork for future opportunities. While those months lacked major milestones, they were crucial for building my resilience and preparation for what was to come.

The real transformation began in June. It was both the lowest point and the turning point of my year.

June: The Storm Before the Calm

June was an uphill battle for me. I faced one of the toughest challenges of my life: I lost my home and found myself in a very dark place. It was a time of uncertainty, but giving up was never an option.

During that difficult period, I realized that challenges can either break us or build us. For me, it was the latter. I was determined to find my footing, and that drive led me to one of the most significant opportunities of my career.

My Journey at Acceleratez

In June, I joined Acceleratez as a Full-Stack Web Developer, Instructor, and Facility Manager. The past six months have been a whirlwind of growth and learning. I’ve had the privilege of working alongside brilliant colleagues, forming lasting friendships, and connecting with mentors who have reshaped my perspective on technology and leadership.

At Acceleratez, we tackled several exciting projects, but one of the highlights was hosting the AI Fest Africa Conference. This event was a game-changer, bringing together some of the biggest names in artificial intelligence to discuss its potential to transform businesses across Africa.

The conference was a resounding success, drawing attention to the need for AI adoption in the region. It was a proud moment for the entire team, and I’m thrilled to be part of the ongoing mission to make this an annual event.

The Biggest Win of the Year: Joining Ginoid

As the year draws to a close, I’m stepping into a new role as a Developer Relations Specialist at ginoid. This is more than just a job; it’s an opportunity to merge my love for technology and community building.

In this role, I’ll be working to bridge the gap between developers and the incredible products we’re building at Ginoid, fostering a vibrant developer community. It feels like the perfect culmination of my journey this year, and I can’t wait to see what lies ahead.

Reflecting on Wins and Lessons

2024 wasn’t just about achievements. It was also about lessons—some hard, some inspiring. Here are a few takeaways from my year:

  • Resilience is Key: Even in my darkest moments, I learned to persevere. The strength to keep going is often what separates success from failure.

  • Community Matters: The people you surround yourself with—friends, mentors, and colleagues—play a significant role in shaping your growth.

  • Celebrate Small Wins: Not every achievement has to be monumental. Sometimes, making it through the day is worth celebrating.

Goals for 2025

As I look ahead to 2025, I’ve set some ambitious goals to continue my growth:

  • Build and launch a personal project that addresses real-world problems.

  • Contribute to open-source projects to give back to the developer community.

  • Mentor aspiring developers and help them navigate the challenges of starting a tech career.

  • Be more active in tech communities and start one to help developers secure jobs and assistance in their projects

  • Sharpen my skills in DevRel, web development, Rust, and emerging technologies like AI and blockchain.
